The Future of OHS in Ontario: Charting the Dean Panel Recommendations and Bill 160

By

Gavel with contracts. jpgOur national OHS practice group has received many questions about Bill 160 which amends the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. In particular, what recommendations from the Dean Panel made it into Bill 160? When do the new provisions come into force? What do we have to do now to comply?

The chart below, prepared by myself and Samantha Seabrook, compares Dean Panel recommendations to the provisions of Bill 160, showing all of the provisions passed effective June 2011 and those yet to come into force. Our chart also includes key Dean Panel recommendations that did not appear in the Bill, but may come later in the form of regulations or standards established by the new Chief Prevention Officer and Prevention Council. We hope you will find this chart of assistance. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions.
